Greenstone Inn: Forming and Footings

The excavators had one last task, to cut the footing trenches (left). With that done, they cleaned up after themselves and left the site to the foundation crew. The crew set to work laying out the footing forms and bringing down the first bundles from the huge pile of steel re-bar. Just a big 'ole hole in the ground (left) and a pile of lumber, several skilled guys, and a space age laser level to guide them on their way. As the forms took final shape (below) the different special re-bar connectors and column locations, thru-footing utility conduits, etc. became visible. One person (left) was kept busy full time just cutting and bending re-bar for the emerging footings. Just a foggy day on the coast "bendin' bar." Looking down one of the retaining wall footings (above) we can see the row of connecting re-bar which will tie footings and columns together. Placing re-bar and tying it off (above) is time consuming work, but the precautions being taken on this ocean bluff site will pay off in years to come.
On to playing in the mud!
