Greenstone Inn: Cut and Fill

With the "batter boards" in place, marking out the perimeter of the new building, the excavator sets to work loading the endless stream of dump trucks carting away dirt. The foundation hole from the cottage on the NW corner is filled in with dirt for the back-fill and grading needs later to come. With a maximum "dig depth" of over 20' the Kobelco carves out an impressive hole from its perch high above the future floor of the new underground parking garage. As the hole grows and the perch shrinks you can begin to appreciate the amount of material being moved.
After nine days elapsed time since beginning demolition, and now with over 3,000 cubic yards of dirt having left, the building's scope is evident.
