The Blizzard of 2012 & the Hurricane

On Monday the citizens of Yaquina City awoke to find themselves “snowed in” on the coast. Here’s the harrowing story.
Ihad to force the front door open against the drifts piled up against it. My wife got lost in the blizzard just feet from our gate. I put the brandy kegs on the dogs and sent them after her. But they love their brandy and after emptying the kegs began playing in the driving snow.
Across the street the Greenstone Inn’s mascot Viking was buried up to his horns.
After hours of digging out a few folks took their pets down to the beach for some snow shoeing.

What you say?
Doesn’t look that way!

Well it seemed like it at the time.

On Wednesday we awoke to a Hurricane landing on Nye Beach
A n 8 ft plus tide driven by 30 ft swells and 90mph winds made Nye Beach almost irresistable to the local surfers (above). The seagulls (below) knew better as the hunkered down on what little beach was left to them.
On Tuesday, as we were all finally clearing out the drifts, my neighbor told me that the weather man said there was a hurricane coming in.
Given the strong smell of beer on his breath I decided to check out his story. Having gotten on line I headed over to the Weather Undergroud and sure enough there were warnings for severe winter weather and high surf. Expected wind strength 100+ mph (hurricane strength).
So this morning I joined my neighbor for a couple of cold ones as we watched rain, tree limbs and a few foolish seagulls (stupid enough to try flying) go wizzing past our front windows.
