Newport Celtic Festival & Highland Games

TThe Bon Fires were lit this last weekend for the gathering of the clans for Newport’s first Celtic Festival and Highland Games
The opening day featured a Sand Castle Contest and a Kilted Kilometer Race (where all competitors, even dogs, had to wear a kilt). That evening we had the opening ceremony Bon Fire and the sounds of bagpipes filled the sea air.
Saturday’s opening saw a huge crowd gather for music & dance on three stages, vendor booths for everything Celtic, children’s activities, food and drink, and the highland games themselves which attracted competitors from all over the country.
There were a few rough spots around the edges, but all in all a great first year event.

From Face Painting to Caber Tossing (left), there was plenty of fun for the kids. The Portrait Boards (above right) provided fun for all ages. The “Bonny Knees” contest (right) had the ladies in a swoon and the men wondering...
