Washed Ashore

plastics, sealife, and art I finally found that bottle cap I misplaced during a romp on the beach with my dogs a year or so ago.
It turned up in a star fish sculpture at the Newport Visual Arts Center (VAC) in a new exhibition featuring the work of Angela Pozzi, Bandon, Oregon artist.
Bothered by the trash on the beaches of Bandon, she became inspired to DO somthing about it. She came up with a title, and concept, called “Washed Ashore.”
She wanted to mount an exhibition that would enlighten the public to the extent of plastic trash in the ocean and its disasterous effects on marine life.
But at the same time she wanted to show that out of the misery of the ocean and her inhabitants, beauty can arise.
She began collecting trash and sorting it into colors, types, etc and then began to build marine creatures and environments using that trash.
She has formed ARTUA Institue for Arts and Environmental Education, is making a film documentary, and started building this art show; all to help create awareness and celebrate the damaged creatures caught in the middle.
The exhibit will run through October and information can be had at 541-265-6540 (VAC) or 541-347-2859 (Angela).
