“I was framed!”

In this evening photo of my Studio/Shop you will find moulding drying on the round top work bench (which lifts off to reveal the table saw below); the chop saw bench is at right with hand tool shelves under. On the back wall here is the matt & glass bench, and to the left is my drawing table and computer area (for the shop).
When we moved here 3 years ago I knew that I was going to have to have frames made for my artwork. I have a leg up on that one because I owned a professional frameshop some 40 years ago. I also am a finish carpenter. So, I anticipated building a few frames in the basement. Things haven’t worked out just that way though.
To begin with, my landlord discovered my framing and immediately brought me several pieces. Another person showed up as his referral, and so it has gone. Now the Greenstone Inn has hired me frame art for the 20 rooms. And guess what?... it’s going to be my art!
Artwork was not budgeted (never is) and so we must start modestly, but owner, Brendan Carmody loves my work and I can get him high quality pieces for far less than even most web sources for hotel art. This is a win-win deal.
But my shop downstairs is only 12’ x 17’ (204 sq. ft.). It wasn’t built to do mass production. Oh, I’m not complaining. Anyway, I just thought you all might like to see what can be done in 200 sq. ft.. In that space I have my studio, a wood shop, paint room, and matting & glass area and a bunch of household storage. To give you a sense of the space, the headroom under the beam is 6’-1” and I am 5’-11”. No cowboy boots worn in this shop.

CEO Celebrates 1st Birthday

DAVID WILDER HANSEN, current C.E.O. (Cute Expressions Officer) of the Hansen Family is turning one year old today. He beat out the former CEO of “the family,” his father, Trevor, who took his dethroning well.
Commenting from his custom upholstered limo seat, Davey sighed, smiled slyly and said, “The bigger they are, the harder they fall.”
“You haven't lost your smile at all, it's right under your nose. You just forgot it was there. Here, I’ll help you find it.”
