LAST WEEK WE WERE IN A FOG AND LIKING IT…
The recent 106º weather had many valley residents heading to our misty beaches and digging it. This week is another matter for this beached visitor.
At 2AM on the night of the Aug. 11th the Lori Ann (formerly, the Little Linda) ran aground smack in the middle of Nye Beach, reportedly because the pilot fell asleep at the wheel.
While groundings of this sort are relatively common on the coast, every time one happens the response gets more complicated. They also turn into genuine community "happenings" with hundreds of folks turning out for the show.
It took three days to remove the Lori Ann — you guessed it — delayed by the fog during the high tides.
HOW TO Re-FLOAT YOUR BOAT What to do if the return from your fishing trip lands you high and dry a mile North of the jetty? Well, you can start by calling all your friends and see if they’re not too busy at the moment. Speed-dial your friends at NWFF Environmental… Call a few neighbors to help off-load 1,800 gal. of fuel… Get some pals to run out a very long tow rope… Find a few chums to help remove the tons of Tuna… Then have your friends with the Helo run the rope to the ocean-going Tug who then refloats your boat. Wallah!
Lastly, pay your friends thousands of dollars for helping you out.
