Bart & Jim go to Washington

Now that the election and inaugural balls are over we've all awaken to a new day with the arrival of a new sheriff in Rock Ridge. During the elections this year I refrained from much commentary on our choices and their possible consequences. But a dreamscape came my way the other night and it's time to share it. I awoke to a small voice in my head, whispering, "Blazing Saddles." It's been years since I've seen the movie so I had to refresh the story line via a quick google. To my surprise it's like looking at today's headlines. The plot unfolds something like this: "The Ultimate Western Spoof. A town where everyone seems to be named Johnson is in the way of the railroad. In order to grab their land, Hedley Lemar, a politically connected nasty person, sends in his henchmen to make the town unlivable. After the sheriff is killed, the town demands a new sheriff from the Governor. Hedley convinces him to send the town the first Black sheriff in the west. Bart is a sophisticated urbanite who will have some difficulty winning over the townspeople.." (videoadrenalin.com) It's as though Obama's political rise is right out of the Blazing Saddles' script. The only mistake he made was choosing Biden as his "Jim" (his laid back, alcoholic gun slinging buddy). A far better choice for v.p. would have been retaining Dick Cheney; he's good with guns. Truth is, we're all just a bunch of Johnsons, waiting and hoping this new leader will prevail against the evil Hedley Lamarr's attempts to destroy our town. I don't think most of us care about the skin color of our deliverer. I can't wait to see how the rest of the script unfolds, though, with these new actors waiting in the wings.

Lessons From Plants" series offered

Series of lectures begins this weekend at the Cabbage Patch Awareness Society Center The CPAS (Cabbage Patch Awareness Society) will host a series of lectures to explore what we can learn from our backyard cabbage patches. They will explore the age-old mystery of "house plants and weeds." Namely, with house plants, you do everything for them, and yet they die. With weeds, you do absolutely nothing for them, you even try to kill them, and yet they survive. Confused? A CPAS spokesman promised folks will learn much about their agrarian priorities and trying to get rid of the last President.
