Yaquina City's favorite Mutt Band announced today the kick off of their "Homely Girls Who Break Hearts World Tour." Beginning at Yaquina Pete's Restaurant and ending at their favorite German Pub, Der Boxer Housen. La Bell and Poteen promise a high energy show which features destroying their stage props. As the pyrotechnics explode they chew up chairs, slippers, books, and even a house plant while chasing each other about the stage. The show begins tonight at 8:00PM. Don't miss it!

Lipstick and Politics

It's an election year and cosmetics top the news today, while some are left wondering if it has always been about barnyard animals and lip gloss. Political candidates have been in the business of "slinging mud" since elections began. But now their smearing each other with lipstick; a sort of political "tagging" of the opponent in the mass media. This was unheard of in days gone by when all the candidates were men. There was no lipstick involved in their campaigns. All the guys had to adorn themselves were lapel flags and campaign buttons. The phrase "lipstick on a pig" is as old as the hills and has been used by both the candidates in this election.  It means you can't make something which is ugly by nature into something beautiful. But I disagree. Without her lipstick (and wig) Miss Piggy is just another oinker. The truth is that politics is an ugly business and no amount of lipstick can make it beautiful.  Lip gloss looks equally bad on Donkeys or Elephants. Only one politician seemed to get the real truth here. Winston Churchill once said "I like pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us as equals." In short, pigs know their own. And the thing about gettin down with a pig is that you'll probably get all dirty and frustrated. The pig on the other hand, enjoys it
