Poor Afghanistan

I did this unnamed drawing at the start of the Russian/Afghanistan war in 1979. It was not motivated by the political view as much as the spiritual one. At the time there was much persecution against Christians in this predominately Muslim country. As you know there is no love lost between Muslims and Christians. Add in the Marxist government of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan, and It was a blood bath.
The Soviet–Afghan War became known as Russia's Vietnam. After 8 years they were forced to pull out. The civil war, launched by their invasion, between the Mujahideen and Marxists goes on to this day. And now it appears it’s our turn as this government entrenches itself in the former administrations “perpetual war” doctrine. Different country, same plan. Nothing different from the Russian Imperialism of 1979.
These folks should remember who won the Soviet–Afghan War, and who is still there waiting for more fools to rush in.
Poor Afghanistan, they dodged the hammer and cycle slicing their skies only to have an eagle guiding its “Predator drones” into their cloud-covered mountain kingdom.
